CASA VLBI 2023

Where do you go when you want to learn the fine art of calibrating very long baseline interferometry observations? You join the CASA VLBI workshop! The third edition of this event took place from 5 to 9 June 2023, organised and hosted by JIVE.

The format was hybrid, with ~35 in-person participants, and ~55 online. Also the tutors were a mix of in person and online. They addressed the basics of interferometry, CASA, CARTA, calibration, and imaging. Advanced lectures covered polarization and wide-field applications of VLBI, and the lecture series closed with a presentation on rPicard, a generic CASA based VLBI pipeline. The afternoons were dedicated to hands-on sessions, where participants could follow scheduled tutorials or work on their own data with help from the tutors.

All the lectures were streamed and recorded, as were two of the hands-on sessions. The materials for the workshop are currently being sorted and cleaned up, and we expect to make them publicly available by mid July. This includes all the slides, hands-on materials and the recordings of the lectures.

Of course there was a Bospub pancake dinner included for the in person participants, which resulted in loads of fun and interesting creations of toppings on the delicious pancakes. The school closed with some discussion on common problems (installing the software) and future requests (more workshops).

All materials are available on the event page.
