Alex Kraus (Germany) is the station manager and scheduler of the 100-m radio telescope of the Max-Planck-Institut für Radioastronomie in Effelsberg (Germany). He studied Physics and Astronomy at the University of Bonn, Germany, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland. Alex wrote his diploma thesis (in 1994) and his Phd thesis (1995-1997) at the Max-Planck-Institute for Radio Astronomy in Bonn. The topic of both theses were brightness variations on short time scales (days down to hours) in Active Galactic Nuclei. Since February 2006 he is the head of the observatory and therefore in charge of the operation of the 100-m telescope.

As leader of WP 10 TA5 Effelsberg, he is responsible for the organization and realization of all Transnational Access activities at the 100-m radio telescope.
